Things to never say to a custom wedding stationer!

WHAT IS A WEDDING STATIONER?

You have never planned a wedding before and you probably never had to reach out to a custom designer for custom wedding invitations, am I right? Well then you may not know what is appropriate and what is not when working with a custom designer. This post is all about WHAT NOT TO ASK!

Can you copy this?

As a designer we have an unspoken oath to respect the design process. We do not and will not copy another designer’s work. I know what you are thinking, “I saw this invitation on Pinterest, and I LOVE it.” You don’t know what it took for that designer to create that perfect monogram and place those florals in the exact location so that it pairs perfectly with the text, nor should you. You just see a beautiful piece of art, yes, I did just compare a wedding invitation to a work of art – don’t judge me!

So here is my advice,

If you find an invitation that you LOVE, don’t ask your stationer to copy it. Instead, let them know WHAT you love about it. We could use it as inspiration to design your very own creation, just for you!

Do you offer discounts?

Some stationers may offer discounts for promos or a new collection they are launching but please stop asking this question. Most custom stationers are pricing their experience and their value. When you order from a custom stationer, you get the one-on-one connection and their input regarding wording and the different pieces you may need and didn't even think about. You will not get this with the online invitation companies. When working with a REAL PERSON you will get direction and they will walk you through different options that best suit you and your wedding.

HOW DO I CHOOSE WEDDING STATIONERY?

The number 1 thing to never ask or say to a custom wedding stationer is…...

Stop Saying it's just a piece of paper!

I could seriously go on and on about this topic, but I will give you the cliff note version. Your wedding invitations are the first thing your guests will see. It sets the tone for your big day. Your invitations not only get your guests to your wedding, but they tell them everything they need to know. What to wear, where to go, where to stay and how to get there. Are you going for a black-tie event, or semi-casual and laid back? Your invitations are so much more than just a piece of paper. Your guests may just throw them away (I cringe as I type that) but let me ask you this, what do you do with your flowers after your wedding or the cake? Are they an afterthought when planning your wedding? I didn't think so. So, if there is one thing you take away from this it's always remember, wedding stationery is just as important as everything else. So be sure to budget properly for it.

This is just 3 things to keep in mind when working with a wedding stationer, check back for more posts about this very topic. I will also post the topic, QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN ORDERING WEDDING STATIONERY! That post will come in the next several weeks, so be sure to stop by and read all about it!

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out.
